Sigma Kappa provides valuable leadership development opportunities to its members. As an organization Sigma Kappa encourages our members to be involved in at least one extracurricular activity during their collegiate experience. Because of this focus on involvement outside of Sigma Kappa, our sisters are able to engage with the campus and community in ways that are important to them.
The Walk to End Alzheimer's
Every year, our chapter participates in the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Monroe and Shreveport, Louisiana. Each sister is committed to fundraising a certain amount for Alzheimer's Research. While our whole chapter gathers in the early hours of the morning to participate in The Walk, many of our members also volunteer to set up and work the registration tables. The Walk to End Alzheimer's is a great way for Sigma Kappas to support one of our philanthropies. This year, on November 3rd, we attended the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Forsythe Park in Monroe!
Each year, we host Sigma Kappa's annual pancake fundraiser Sigma Stacks. Every ticket sold benefits the Ultra Violet Campaign and the Sigma Kappa Foundation's PULSE fund. The PULSE fund supports Philanthropic initiatives, Unrestricted gifts, Leadership development, Sisters in need, and Education, all of which reflect the values of Sigma Kappa Sorority. This year, we hosted Sigma Stacks on January 31 at the BCM! Our event is hosted in the winter and we provide all you can eat pancakes.
Sigma Kappa Day of Service
On the annual Day of Service, Sigma Kappas come together to serve the local Ruston community. Last year on April 7, we helped clean up the streets of Ruston as well as a local nursing home. We also teamed up with a local organization to help disabled children play Buddy Ball. The sisters of Sigma Kappa aren't afraid to get their hands dirty to help those in need!
Guys in Ties
Every year, Sigma Kappa hosts our fundraising event Guys in Ties. Last year, we hosted Guys in Ties on May 1 in Howard Auditorium. This event is a live auction that helps raise money for the Ultra Violet Campaign.
Easter Egg Decorating
This Spring, we hosted an Easter egg decorating event! Our sisters gathered together to paint and dye Easter eggs while enjoying some yummy snacks!
This year Sigma Kappa celebrated Valentines Day by celebrating the love we have for our sisters, collegiate and alumnae. This event was on February 12 at Uptown Downtown in Ruston. In the spirit of "Galentines" Day, we ate lots of sweets and did fun games that celebrated our amazing sisterhood.
Puppy Kissing Booth
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, Sigma Kappa has made it a tradition of hosting a puppy kissing booth in the Plaza. The event took place on February 15, and the booth offers nothing but love and free kisses for puppy-lovers! We love seeing the smiles on everyone's faces when we break out the puppies!
For the Tech Homecoming football game on October 20, we hosted a tailgate for all of our sisters (both collegiate and alumnae members)! We had plenty of food and good music for everyone to enjoy before the football game.
